How to Get More Google Reviews for Your Business (The Right Way)
Google reviews are often the deciding factor when someone chooses between two local businesses. They also help you appear higher in Google Maps results. The good news: most happy customers are willing to leave a review. They just need to be asked at the right moment, in an easy way.
Set up your Google Business Profile first
Reviews live on your Google Business Profile. Make sure it is verified and complete, with the correct category, hours and phone number. Then copy your review link from the profile dashboard (“Ask for reviews”).
Ask at the moment of happiness
- Right after a successful appointment, delivery or project handover.
- When a customer thanks you or compliments your work.
- In a short follow-up message the same day, while the experience is fresh.
Make it one tap
Send the direct review link by text, WhatsApp or email. Put a QR code that opens the review page at your counter, on receipts or on the final invoice. Every extra step loses reviewers.
What not to do
- Never buy reviews or write them yourself. Google removes them, can suspend your profile, and fake reviews can break consumer protection laws.
- Do not offer discounts or gifts in exchange for reviews. Google’s policies do not allow incentivised reviews.
- Do not only ask happy customers selectively through a filter (“review gating”). Ask everyone the same way.
Reply to every review
Thank people for positive reviews by name and mention what they used. For negative reviews, reply calmly, apologise for the experience, and offer to fix it offline. Future customers read your replies as much as the reviews.
Use reviews on your website
Show a few real Google reviews on your website with a link to see them all on Google. It builds trust at the exact moment someone is deciding to contact you.
Automate the ask
Booking and ordering systems can send a review request automatically after each completed appointment or order. Set it up once and reviews keep coming in without anyone remembering to ask.
