Is Your Slow Website Losing Customers? How to Test and Fix Mobile Speed
Most of your visitors arrive on a phone, often on mobile data. If your page is still loading after a few seconds, many of them simply go back and tap the next result. Speed is one of the easiest things to measure and one of the most valuable to fix.
Test it in two minutes
- Turn off Wi-Fi on your phone and open your website. Count the seconds until you can read and tap.
- Run your address through Google’s free PageSpeed Insights tool and look at the mobile score.
- Check your main page and your booking or contact page, not just the home page.
The usual causes
- Huge images: photos uploaded straight from a camera, often several megabytes each.
- Too many plugins and scripts: sliders, pop-ups, chat widgets and trackers all add weight.
- Slow or overloaded hosting.
- Heavy themes built to look impressive in a demo, not to load fast.
- Auto-playing videos at the top of the page.
The fixes that help most
- Resize and compress images, and use modern formats such as WebP.
- Remove plugins and scripts you do not really use.
- Load chat widgets and videos only when needed.
- Move to faster hosting with a content delivery network (CDN).
- For an old, heavy site, a lightweight rebuild is often cheaper than endless tuning.
Speed is also about the next step
A fast page that makes booking hard still loses customers. After speed, check that your main button is visible straight away and that forms are short.
